Summer Camps

I stumbled upon Camp Kaleo, ending up there for the summer of 1995 with almost no planning and no intent. My life, my character, my concept of God and brotherhood and nature have been eternally shaped by my years there. Three summers, 30 weeks, of my 36 some-odd years; clearly the most intensely influential days of my life. In faith, I must believe in God's graceful providence.

I wouldn't be who I am without summer camp.
And if I wasn't who I was,
   I wouldn't have attracted my better half,
   I wouldn't connect nature with God,
   My overactive rational intellect would have destroyed my boyish faith, and my faith in boyhood.

In Australia, I led a Scripture Union Canoemup camp. Someone was dumb enough to suggest I lead the spiritual component of the camp, and I was so overwhelmed with it that I shrunk to nothing, allowing God to fill the space and do a wondrous work in many lives, including my own. A shattered vessel holding living water. Also, 6 days of non-stop whitewater is a memory of lifetime.
